Treatment Process
Why Grubs Are Especially Problematic in our service area
Oklahoma's warm climate and clay-loam soils create ideal conditions for grubs, specifically the larvae of Japanese beetles, June bugs, and masked chafers, all of which are common in the Stillwater area. These beetles lay their eggs in the soil during early summer, and by mid-to-late summer their larvae are feeding aggressively on grass roots just below the surface. The tricky part: you usually can't see the damage happening. Grubs work underground, silently severing root systems. By the time large brown patches appear, typically in August and September, the root system is already severely damaged and the turf has begun to die. In many cases, the sod can be rolled back like a carpet because there's nothing holding it to the ground. Beyond the grass damage, grubs attract a second wave of destruction. Armadillos, moles, raccoons, and skunks all dig up Oklahoma lawns in search of grubs, leaving behind torn turf, crater-sized holes, and a yard that looks like it was tilled overnight.
Signs You May Have a Grub Problem
The Right Treatment at the Right Time
Timing is the single most important factor in grub control, and it's where most DIY attempts fall short. Products applied too late in the season won't reach the larvae effectively because the grubs have already burrowed deeper into the soil. We apply our grub and insect treatment during May and June, targeting the window just before and during peak egg hatch. At this stage, the larvae are small, near the soil surface, and most vulnerable to treatment. Getting in during this window means maximum effectiveness with minimum product needed. After application, we recommend watering the lawn thoroughly to help the treatment move down through the soil profile and reach the target zone where eggs and early-stage larvae are present. As a secondary benefit, our insect treatment also reduces earthworm and other insect populations near the surface, which in turn reduces the food source that attracts burrowing animals. Many customers notice a significant drop in armadillo and mole activity following treatment.
